Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire Coming to the Big Screen in 2024

Godzilla vs Kong Director Reveals How the Winner Was Chosen

Godzilla and King Kong aren’t staying dormant for long. The titans are returning to the big screen in 2024. The film will continue Legendary’s Monsterverse, which began with 2014’s Godzilla, and includes Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, and 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong.

Godzilla x Kong will be directed by Adam Wingard, who also helmed the previous two entries. He’s joined by returning cast members Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kaylee Hottle. Dan Stevens, Fala Chen, and Rachel House round out the cast.

Director Adam Wingard

Following the massive success of Godzilla vs Kong, Legendary and Warner Bros. have begun to ramp up production on the next big entry into their MonsterVerse. The studio has released a short synopsis for the film, which reveals that this time around the titans will team up to fight off a world-ending threat.

Wingard, who directed the first film in the series, will return to helm this installment. He will work from a script by Terry Rossio, Jeremy Slater, and Simon Barrett, the latter of whom is Wingard’s longtime collaborator on movies like You’re Next and The Guest.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire will star Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kaylee Hottle. Dan Stevens from Legion, Fala Chen from Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Alex Ferns from Thor: Ragnarok have also been cast in key roles for the movie. Other members of the returning crew include cinematographer Ben Seresin, production designer Tom Hammock, editor Josh Schaeffer, and composer Tom Holkenborg.

Cast Rebecca Hall

Following the success of Godzilla vs. Kong, Warner Bros and Legendary are moving forward with additional Monsterverse films, and a sequel to that film has been officially titled Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. The movie will see King Kong and Godzilla team up to defeat a “world-ending threat that neither could survive alone.”

In addition to returning to their roles in the sequel, series veterans Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kaylee Hottle are joined by Dan Stevens (Legion), Fala Chen (Irma Vep, Shang Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings), Alex Ferns (Wrath of Man), and Rachel House (Hunt for the Wilderpeople). Simon Barrett, Wingard’s frequent collaborator on movies like You’re Next and V/H/S, is also a co-writer.

This latest entry in the Monsterverse will reportedly dive deeper into the origins of the Titans and Skull Island while offering more titanic battles and more interconnected storylines. The film is slated to hit theaters in 2024.

Cast Brian Tyree Henry

The film stars Brian Tyree Henry, who was praised for his portrayal of Jamal Manning in Kenneth Lonergan’s Lobby Hero and also appeared in If Beale Street Could Talk. He also has upcoming roles in the Apple TV+ series Sinking Spring, Sony’s heist drama White Boy Rick and FX’s limited series Class of ’09.

The studios behind Godzilla vs. Kong and the wider Monsterverse haven’t revealed many details about the upcoming sequel, but they teased that it will explore the titans’ backstories and answer questions left unanswered by the first movie. The sequel will see the pair face off against a threat bigger than either one of them alone, according to a brief synopsis.

The sequel began shooting in Australia earlier this year. The production is expected to boost local businesses, provide training opportunities for Australian talent and showcase the country’s diverse landscapes. The producers behind the blockbuster have also promised to spend more than $119 million in the Queensland economy and employ 750 Australian cast and crew members.

Cast Kaylee Hottle

The young Kaylee Hottle made a big impression in her cinematic debut in 2021 as the deaf girl Jia in Godzilla vs. Kong. In the film, she was able to communicate with King Kong through sign language. She will be back as the young Jia in the upcoming Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

The sequel was filmed in Queensland, Australia. The cast includes returning stars Rebecca Hall as Dr. Ilene Andrews, Brian Tyre Henry as Bernie Hayes, and Kaylee Hottle as Jia. Other members of the cast include Dan Stevens from Legion, Fala Chen from Shang Chi and Legend of the Ten Rings, Alex Ferns from The Batman, and Rachel House from Thor: Ragnarok.

Adam Wingard, who directed the first movie in the Monsterverse series, is back to direct this one. The movie will see the two titans team up to take on a world-ending threat that they couldn’t survive alone. The movie was written by Terry Rossio and Simon Barrett, who worked with Wingard on You’re Next and The Guest.
